Silver Lining

Silver Lining by GothicNarcissusThere’s a storm on the streets, but you still don’t run,
Watching and waiting for the rain to come.
And these words wouldn’t keep you dry
Or wipe tears from an open sky,
But I know, but I know, but I know I’m right.

I won’t let you drown
When the water’s pulling you in:
I’ll keep fighting, I’ll keep fighting.
The rain’s going to follow you wherever you go,
The clouds go black and the thunder rolls,
And I see lightning, and I see lightning.

When the world surrounds you
I’ll make it go away,
Paint the sky with silver lining.
I will try to save you,
Cover up the grey
With silver lining.

Now there’s no way back from the things you’ve done.
I know it’s too late to stop the setting sun.
You see the shadows in the distant light
And it’s never going to be alright,
And you know, and you know, and you know I’m right.

And I won’t get left behind.
When the walls come tumbling in
I’ll keep climbing, I’ll keep climbing.
The rain’s going to follow you wherever you go,
The clouds go black and the thunder rolls
And I see lightning, I see lightning.

When the world surrounds you
I’ll make it go away,
Paint the sky with silver lining.
I will try to save you,
Cover up the grey
With silver lining.

When the world surrounds you
I’ll make it go away,
Paint the sky with silver lining.
I will try to save you,
Cover up the grey
With silver lining.

[ Silver Lining - Hurts ]

Apparently, Hurts’ songs have a particular effect on my imagination, as the photos I base on the images they give me always end up to be among my personal favourites. After the first encounter with Evelyn, it was this song that made me fall helplessly in love with the band, and by the second listen it already evoked this exact image in my mind.
I can’t effectively put into words the feelings this song gives me: a mixture of hope, happiness, carefreeness, gloom, melancholia, nostalgia and a touch of epicness and almightiness. The melody, the lyrics, the instruments, all are different but blended into such an effective song that I can’t help but love it, in particular the last part, with the choir obsessively chanting the word “Silver” like it was an anthem or a spell. This is basically the host of emotions I wanted to express with this photo. I must really thank my mother for helping me take it exactly how I wanted it to be, she did a remarkable work as an assistant. It took a bit of editing to be complete, as shooting against the sky is always a bit tricky, but it’s like I just projected an image from my mind directly into the computer. I love this kind of moments, they are epic.

Welcome

As I’ve just opened this new blog, I think it’d be a good idea to introduce myself, this page and the purpose why I’m on blogspot as well.

My name is Alessandro, I’m 21 years old (22 in a month) and I’m a university student with a huge passion for art. I live and study in Trieste, Italy, and whenever I’ve got some free time you can be sure you will see me with my headphones in my ears and my photocamera in my hand going for some photos. I’ve been publishing my photos on deviantART under the brand “GothicNarcissus” for more than four years and a half now, even before I had a reflex camera, and I’ve been going through many changes and developments as an artist.
I’m writing this blog just to talk about this: my passion for photography and everything that’s connected to it in some way.
This won’t be a personal blog, which means I won’t be talking about my private life and myself as a person. It will rather be an artistic blog, in which I will discuss my art and anything that’s connected to and inspires it: not only will I write about my photos, the photoshoots and the postproduction process, but I’ll also write about my favourite musicians, painters, other photographers and models who affect my artistic self in some way. This blog won’t substitute my deviantART gallery for the publication of new photos, but here you will find many surrounding details that I don’t feel like writing on deviantART not to distract the attention from the photos themselves. If you want to have a deeper perspective on my work, this will surely help.

For those who come across this page before seeing my deviantART gallery, I think I should introduce my art as well: I’m an amateur photographer and model who occasionally crosses the borders with digital art and photomanipulation, and most of my art has a rather dark and murky touch in it. In the past, I used to stick to the Gothic imagery more strictly, but now I’m experimenting in many different directions while keeping the murk as a general feeling, often just in the very background. Although I occasionally shoot landscapes and architectures, I’m more of a portrait photographer; nevertheless, I like to contextualize my portraits in the surroundings, having the landscape or architectures valorize my models. When I take a photo, my main aim is to communicate an emotion or a story rathr than simply portray a subject. My camera is a Canon EOS 1000D, and I use Photoshop CS3 to postproduce my photos.

I’d say this is more than enough for a presentation, so I’ll just leave my work to speak for itself and my future entries to complete your view about who I am and what I do as an artist.
